AFC Week 15 Hot Takes

AFC East

Buffalo Bills: Yayyyy you beat the Browns! And you still might lose your job, Rex. Not very forgiving in Buffalo, are they? – Jordan Curet

Miami Dolphins: Matt Moore possibly helping a team get to the playoffs? 2016 really is the worst year ever. – Randy Haines

New England Patriots: Big props to the New England defense for completing shutting down the Broncos’ offense (and starting a brawl in the Denver locker room). The offense did enough to score some point against the great Denver D, but the defense was the real MVP this week. The Pats are on their way to the top seed in the AFC playoffs. – Nick Bair

New York Jets: There is really nothing else I can say about this team that hasn’t already been said. They are an absolute train wreck. I’ll be interested to see what defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson puts on Snapchat before the Jets game this weekend. – RH

AFC North

Baltimore Ravens: Phew. That was a close one. Philly decided to go for two instead of tying the game up and head to OT. That proved fortuitous for the Ravens, who made a big stop and left with a victory. Baltimore seems to be playing some of their best football right now, and will need to keep that up on Christmas. They play their archrival, the division leading Steelers, on Christmas Day in Pittsburgh. Can they get their second straight regular season sweep? Baltimore fans will be writing to Santa for that this week. – NB

Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals seemed more concerned with injuring the entire Steelers roster. Which at least they’ll get a better draft pick now so there’s that to hang your hat on Bengals fans. – RH

Cleveland Browns: Two more games. Just two more before this season is mercifully over for the Browns. – JC

Pittsburgh Steelers: Yes the Steelers won, but does anyone know what is wrong with Ben Roethlisberger on the road? His splits have been pretty terrible and he just doesn’t look right. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was nursing an injury. No matter what, you can bet Pittsburgh will be ready for the game this week as they host Baltimore. They have revenge on the brain after losing to them earlier in the year. Not to mention, the AFC North is on the line. – NB

AFC South

Houston Texans: Let Tom Savage Mania begin! Savage is more than likely nothing special, but hey at least he’s not Brock Osweiler. I feel bad for Texans fans, all of America wants them out of the playoffs and they want a franchise quarterback so bad that they’ll cheer when the guy who was supposed to be their savior gets benched in favor of someone who couldn’t stick at three different colleges. – RH

Indianapolis Colts: The Colts came out firing and never let up. Unsurprisingly, Andrew Luck was kept upright for the majority of the game (weird correlation between Luck being clean and the Colts being in these games). They are still safely in the playoff race, but the Titans will not go away. – JC

Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars lost. The Jaguars also fired their coach. – NB

Tennessee Titans: While I have no idea what Mike Mularkey was thinking going for two, it all worked out in the end for Tennessee. The Titans got maybe their biggest win of the season and are setup for a possible playoff berth. They will need to stay hot these last two weeks. Luckily they have the LOLJags this week, who just fired their coach before a tilt with the Texans (which could be for the division). – NB

AFC West

Denver Broncos: We’ve finally reached the breaking point for the Super Bowl champs. Allegedly, the defense is angry at the offense because they’ve failed to impress. Welcome to the club, Broncos’ defense! Your offense hasn’t been impressive for two seasons. Against a relatively weak Patriots’ defense, Siemian wasn’t terrible but no one could do enough to get in the endzone. I think the magic has finally worn off in Denver. – JC

Kansas City Chiefs: Woof. What a choke job that was. The Chiefs were minutes away from another victory before blowing a 10 point fourth quarter lead against the Titans. Kansas City also now finds themselves one game back of Oakland for the AFC West lead and what will probably be a first round bye for whichever team ends up on top in the division. Andy Reid will have to rally the troops as Miami, Pittsburgh and Baltimore are now within striking distance of them for a wild card spot – RH

Oakland Raiders: Another nailbiter on Sunday, but the Raiders got another big win. This one clinches their first playoff berth since 2002! It has been really great to see one of the NFL’s most storied franchises turn it around. That being said, I think this team is a little overrated and will lose their first playoff game. You heard it here first! – NB

San Diego Chargers: I wrote the following about San Diego last week: “This could be a team to watch out for in 2017 assuming they get some better injury luck, but as for 2016 they are toast.” That applies to them again this week as the Chargers lost another close game. – RH
