NFL Predictions Report Card

At Head & Heart Sports, we love to make bold predictions all of the time. The one problem of doing it in print is that we also have to relive our worst picks. As we tie the knot on the NFL season this week, we take a look back at our best and worst predictions of 2016.

AFC Playoff Teams:

Nick Bair:

AFC Playoffs Correct: New England Patriots

AFC North Champ – Pittsburgh Steelers

AFC South Champ – Houston Texans

AFC West Champ – Kansas City Chiefs

Wild Card – Baltimore Ravens

Wild Card – Denver Broncos

Jordan Curet:

AFC East Champ – Buffalo Bills

AFC North Champ – Cincinnati Bengals

AFC South Champ – Indianapolis Colts

AFC West Champ – Kansas City Chiefs

Wild Card – Baltimore Ravens

Wild Card – Oakland Raiders

Sean Demetrakis:

AFC East Champ – New England Patriots

AFC North Champ – Pittsburgh Steelers

AFC South Champ – Houston Texans

AFC West Champ – Kansas City Chiefs

Wild Card – Baltimore Ravens

Wild Card – Oakland Raiders

Randy Haines:

AFC East Champ – New England Patriots

AFC North Champ – Cincinnati Bengals

AFC South Champ – Indianapolis Colts

AFC West Champ – Kansas City Chiefs

Wild Card – Pittsburgh Steelers

Wild Card – Houston Texans

Consensus: Sean wins this round with 5 out of 6 playoff teams correctly picked. Only his beloved Ravens prevented him from a perfect slate.

NFC Playoff Teams:

NB:

NFC East Champ – New York Giants

NFC North Champ – Green Bay Packers

NFC South Champ – Carolina Panthers

NFC West Champ – Arizona Cardinals

Wild Card – Seattle Seahawks

Wild Card – New Orleans Saints

JC:

NFC East Champ – New York Giants

NFC North Champ – Green Bay Packers

NFC South Champ – Carolina Panthers

NFC West Champ – Arizona Cardinals

Wild Card – Seattle Seahawks

Wild Card – Atlanta Falcons

SD:

NFC East Champ – Dallas Cowboys

NFC North Champ – Green Bay Packers

NFC South Champ – Carolina Panthers

NFC West Champ – Arizona Cardinals

Wild Card – Seattle Seahawks

Wild Card – Detroit Lions

RH:

NFC East Champ – Washington

NFC North Champ – Green Bay Packers

NFC South Champ – Carolina Panthers

NFC West Champ – Seattle Seahawks

Wild Card – Arizona Cardinals

Wild Card – Minnesota Vikings

Consensus: Sean wins again with 3.5 correct picks in the NFC. Shout out to Jordan though for being the only person to pick the Falcons to make the playoffs.

Super Bowl Matchup:

NB: New England Patriots over Seattle Seahawks

JC: Green Bay Packers over Cincinnati Bengals

SD: Carolina Panthers over New England Patriots

RH: Arizona Cardinals over Cincinnati Bengals

Consensus: Nick gets the easy win here since he picked the champs.

MVP:

NB: Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

JC: Aaron Rodgers QB, Green Bay Packers

SD: Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

RH: Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts

Consensus: None of us had Matt Ryan or runner-up Tom Brady. I guess Jordan was closest for Rodgers? Poor showing.

Offensive Player of the Year:

NB: Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

JC: Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles Rams

SD: Odell Beckham Jr., WR, New York Football Giants

RH: Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons

Consensus: Again, none of us had Matty Ice. The three WRs all had good seasons though. We can all agree that Jordan had the worst pick here.

Defensive Player of the Year:

NB: Khalil Mack, DE/LB, Oakland Raiders

JC: JJ Watt, DE, Houston Texans

SD: Khalil Mack, DE/LB, Oakland Raiders

RH: Aaron Donald, DT, Los Angeles Rams

Consensus: Nick and Sean were money on this one.

Offensive Rookie of the Year:

NB: Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys

JC: Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys

SD: Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys

RH: Carson Wentz, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

Consensus: Who could have seen Dak coming? Zeke was a decent runner-up choice for everyone except Randy. However, Wentz had a pretty decent year as well.

Defensive Rookie of the Year:

NB: Myles Jack, LB, Jacksonville Jaguars

JC: Joey Bosa, DE, San Diego Chargers

SD: Jalen Ramsey, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars

RH: Myles Jack, LB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Consensus: Great pick by Jordan. The rest of us shouldn’t have had such faith in the Jags.

Biggest Surprise Team:

NB: Cleveland Browns

JC: Tennessee Titans

SD: Jacksonville Jaguars

RH: Chicago Bears

Consensus: All pretty rough here outside Jordan since the Titans at least finished above .500. Meanwhile, the other three teams earned three of the four worst records in the NFL.

Most Disappointing Team:

NB: Washington Redskins

JC: Denver Broncos

SD: Cincinnati Bengals

RH: Denver Broncos

Consensus: A decent showing here. All of these teams missed the playoffs. However, I think Sean wins this one as the Bengals were pretty dreadful all season.

How did we do overall?

The best: Sean was clearly our best prognosticator. He picked most of the right playoff teams, had the DPOY, and rightly did not believe in the Bengals.

The worst: Keeping up with his dreadful weekly picks, Randy was also the worst here. He picked zero individual awards correctly and didn’t fair too much better on the team ones either.
